Israel: Netanyahu and Gantz hold meeting with President Rivlin to negotiate new government
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his rival, Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz, held their first meeting with President Reuven Rivlin to discuss the formation of a new government in Jerusalem on Monday.
Rivlin called the two rival politicians to meet after two days of talks between the rival parties to form a new governing coalition after no side managed to achieve the required 61 seat threshold in the recent presidential ballot, with Gantz and Netanyahu vying to become the Prime Minister after receiving the backing of minority parties.
According to Israeli media reports, the President announced that significant steps had been made during the meeting.
